A major fire broke out at a car parts manufacturing plant in Daejeon, South Korea, leaving 10 workers dead and 59 others injured, according to local reports.

Firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving information and battled the blaze for an extended period before bringing it under control. Authorities said 170 workers were on duty at the time of the incident.

Rescue teams are continuing a search for four people reported missing. The injured have been admitted to hospitals, and 25 of them are said to be in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise.

Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire. They also said firefighters could not enter the building immediately due to the risk of structural collapse, which may have contributed to the higher casualties.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has directed officials to carry out rescue operations at full scale.
