Chennai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan has called on party cadres to push harder within the DMK-led alliance for additional constituencies, stressing the need to fight for seats and resources ahead of elections.

Speaking to party workers through a video conference, he said the party should prepare for the polls with confidence, even if it ends up contesting a limited number of seats. He underlined that there are pressures involved in selecting candidates amid constraints and in mobilising funds.

Thirumavalavan said that despite the party having spent 25 years in electoral politics, the field still feels new and the party has not fully adapted to it. He also pointed to an unfavourable social environment, claiming many do not want the VCK to grow stronger or emerge as a major political force.

He said the party has chosen to follow a civil political tradition rather than pursue disruptive politics, and that it has acted with magnanimity in seat-sharing and related decisions. Protecting credibility among the people, he added, is the real measure of success.

Emphasising what he called a democratic duty, he said the party continues to invite applications from aspirants across Tamil Nadu to understand who wishes to contest from which constituencies. Safeguarding the party’s politics and maintaining the VCK’s strength, he said, remains the priority.
