Washington: With tensions high due to the ongoing war in West Asia, a report says the United States is holding discussions on how to seize nuclear-related materials held by Iran.
The conflict, now in its 22nd day, has intensified amid a global crude oil shortage and growing uncertainty over when the fighting will end. President Donald Trump has said the US is close to achieving its objectives and that a ceasefire is not likely at present.
CBS News reported that the discussions include possible use of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), a US special operations unit, to recover Iran’s nuclear materials. However, the report said Trump has not yet made a final decision.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran currently has about 972 pounds of uranium enriched to 6%. The report noted that much of this stock is believed to be buried beneath nuclear facilities that were damaged in a US strike last year.
