Reports from TVK circles claim party chief Vijay has conveyed a firm stand that he will not align with either the DMK or the AIADMK, and plans to face the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election on his own.

According to the report, the BJP explored bringing TVK into the National Democratic Alliance, arguing that a strong two-corner contest would make it easier to challenge the DMK, which is expected to fight with the advantages of power, resources and a broad alliance.

The same sources say Vijay initially did not commit, and later considered joining the BJP-led alliance after developments linked to the Karur death incident and a divorce-related issue involving his wife Sangeetha. However, internal opposition from TVK functionaries Aadhav Arjuna and John Arokiyasamy—who warned it could hurt the party’s future—was cited as a reason he did not join the NDA.

The report further claims that when Vijay travelled to Delhi last Saturday night to appear for a CBI inquiry, he met individuals close to Jay Shah and reiterated that he dislikes both DMK and AIADMK, calling them corrupt, and that he entered politics to offer an alternative. He is said to have insisted he has no interest in joining any alliance that includes the AIADMK, and that he will contest alone for now, with decisions after the election to be taken later.

It also states that Amit Shah was informed and responded that Vijay may act as per his current preference. Subsequently, Vijay attended an iftar event last Wednesday and publicly reaffirmed his decision to contest independently, the sources added.
