New Delhi: Members of Parliament are generally known to arrive in formal attire, but women MPs’ outfits often draw particular attention. Parliament currently has 116 women MPs—74 in the Lok Sabha and 42 in the Rajya Sabha—many of whom wear sarees.
During the ongoing Budget Session, actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is being described as one of the most stylishly dressed MPs. Reports say she wears different sarees for morning and evening appearances and does not repeat a saree once worn.
Fellow MPs have been praising her wardrobe, while Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra is also being noted for her well-put-together looks. Tamil Nadu MPs Kanimozhi and Thamizhachi Thangapandian are also said to be appreciated among women MPs for their saree choices.
BJP MP Hema Malini, too, has been mentioned for wearing colourful sarees. Young women reporters covering Parliament have reportedly asked Ranaut where her sarees are purchased, and Hindi TV channels have begun running segments focused on her sarees.
Amid the buzz, Speaker Om Birla is said to have remarked that it feels like Parliament could even host a “fashion show.”
