Islamabad: Pakistan has been ranked first in a global terrorism impact index released by the Centre for Economics and Peace.
The index was compiled by assessing the impact of terrorism across 163 countries, according to the organisation.
The report said Pakistan faces a major security threat linked to strained relations with Afghanistan and attacks attributed to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). It noted that last year alone, 1,045 terror incidents led to 1,139 deaths.
It added that the TTP was responsible for the highest number of attacks in Pakistan, followed by the BLA.
The centre also stated that 70% of global terrorism-related deaths occurred in five countries: Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Niger and Congo.
