An Air Canada Express aircraft was involved in a runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport after it struck a fire truck, according to airport officials.
The incident occurred while the plane was moving at about 39 kmph on the runway. The aircraft’s front section was damaged in the impact, and videos showing the aftermath have circulated online.
Passengers were evacuated safely through emergency exits. The airport was temporarily closed as rescue operations were carried out at the site.
Authorities said the pilot and co-pilot died in the crash. More than 50 people were injured and taken to hospital, with four reported to be in critical condition.
An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the collision, officials added.
