The Election Commission has decided to introduce additional facilities at polling stations to improve voter convenience. The measures include placing benches for voters to sit while waiting in queues and creating a separate room outside the entrance for depositing mobile phones.

In a statement, the Commission said polling stations will be equipped with drinking water, waiting areas, toilets and adequate lighting. It also listed ramps for voters with disabilities, improved voting compartments and clear guidance signboards as part of the arrangements.

To help voters, posters will be displayed at all polling stations with details such as booth information, the list of candidates, do’s and don’ts for voters, and the voting procedure. Voter help desks will also be set up at each polling location to assist people in finding their booth number and serial number in the electoral roll.

As part of the mobile-phone deposit facility, voters will be required to switch off their phones and hand them over to a designated volunteer before entering the polling station, the Commission said.
