AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has questioned why leaders such as VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan did not speak out on the murder of a Scheduled Caste farmer near Tirunelveli.
In a statement, EPS said the farmer was allegedly killed by unidentified persons around six days ago and that, until yesterday morning, the accused had not been arrested. He also cited reports that the victim’s 23-year-old daughter died by suicide, calling it shocking.
EPS said relatives staged protests following the incident, after which police announced that three people had been arrested in the case. He alleged that crimes were not being prevented under the DMK government and claimed action would be unlikely, especially if the accused had links to the ruling party.
Referring to earlier incidents such as Vengaivayal and Nanguneri, EPS said the latest case reflected the situation faced by marginalised communities. He appealed to police officials to act promptly and ensure the accused are arrested, and urged the public to seek a permanent solution through their vote.
