New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all government departments to work in close coordination to reduce inconvenience to the public arising from the ongoing war in West Asia.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by the Prime Minister, reviewed the current situation, the steps already taken and the measures being planned across ministries. The Cabinet Secretary briefed the committee on the evolving scenario and the government’s preparedness.

The discussions covered possible disruptions to agriculture, chemicals, food security, petroleum and energy, exports, MSMEs, shipping, trade and supply chains. The committee also examined both short-term and long-term risks to the global economy and the steps needed to ensure India remains insulated.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the government decided to ensure adequate coal stocks at all power plants and prevent any electricity shortage. The meeting also discussed diversifying imports for chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other industrial requirements, and setting new export targets to promote Indian products.

The Prime Minister directed ministers and departments to work with stakeholders and coordinate with state governments to prevent black-marketing or hoarding of essential goods. The statement noted that the situation is changing rapidly and called for all necessary efforts to protect people from the fallout of the conflict.
