Two people from Kerala died after their car was caught in a sudden flash flood in Oman, according to reports from Palakkad.

The victims were Shamla (32) of Thrithala in Palakkad district, wife of Lubishath, who heads the INKAS organisation in Oman, and Yusuf (38), also from Thrithala, who was engaged in business there.

Yusuf and members of Lubishath’s family had travelled together in a single car to the Barka tourist spot in Oman to spend the Ramadan holiday and were returning when the flooding occurred.

The car got stuck in the sudden surge of water, leading to the deaths of Shamla and Yusuf. Shamla’s mother, Ramla, was reportedly swept away, and a search operation is under way.

A total of nine people were in the vehicle. Six, including four children, survived the incident.
