New Delhi: The Chief Justice of India, Justice Suryakant, on Monday made a pointed remark in the ongoing dispute within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), asking founder S Ramadoss and party leader Anbumani Ramadoss not to “squeeze the mango into juice”.
The case relates to the Election Commission’s decision to allot PMK’s “mango” symbol to Anbumani. Challenging this, Ramadoss has approached the Supreme Court, arguing that when internal party disputes arise, the usual practice is to freeze the symbol, and that even the draw-of-lots method was not followed.
Counsel appearing for Anbumani submitted that the symbol was allotted based on documents available with the Election Commission.
After hearing both sides, the CJI observed that the Election Commission appeared to be playing a “friendly match” in the matter and advised the parties to immediately approach a civil court seeking the mango symbol. The Supreme Court also directed the civil court to hear the petition and deliver a decision within three days.
