Actor-politician R. Sarathkumar on Sunday expressed dissatisfaction over not being given a position in the BJP, saying he can work effectively only if he holds a post. He made the remarks after a meeting with his supporters in T. Nagar, Chennai.

Sarathkumar had merged his Samathuva Makkal Katchi with the BJP in 2024. His wife, actor Radhika, contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Virudhunagar and lost. Sarathkumar is currently a member of the BJP national general council.

Speaking to reporters, he said his long-time associates had conveyed their disappointment that no responsibilities had been assigned to him so far. He added that his supporters had recorded a view in their discussions that the Samathuva Makkal Katchi should be restarted.

Sarathkumar said he joined the BJP out of admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and belief in his administrative ability. He said he has already conveyed his concerns to the party leadership and spoken to state leaders including K. Annamalai, Nainar Nagendran and Arvind Menon.

He also said neither he nor his wife would contest in the upcoming election, and that he would submit a letter to the state president and the national leadership reiterating that he needs a position to function. He further remarked that TVK leader Vijay is “not a leader.”
