The verdict in the Sathankulam father-son death case, which drew statewide attention in Tamil Nadu, is scheduled to be delivered at 4 pm on March 23. Madurai District Additional Sessions Judge Muthukumaran will pronounce the judgment.
The case relates to the 2020 deaths of trader Jayaraj and his son Bennix in Sathankulam. They died after being allegedly subjected to brutal assault during police interrogation.
After an initial probe by the CB-CID, the investigation was transferred to the CBI. Several police personnel, including then inspector Sridhar and sub-inspectors Bala Krishnan and Ragu Ganesh, were arrested in connection with the case.
The CBI examined 105 witnesses and filed a detailed charge sheet running to about 400 pages. The trial was conducted at the Madurai First Additional Sessions Court, where arguments were heard from both the prosecution and the accused.
With evidence and final submissions completed, the court is set to deliver its decision this evening.
