Election flying squads and static surveillance teams have intensified checks across Tamil Nadu after the Model Code of Conduct came into force ahead of the Assembly election scheduled for April 23.
The Election Commission has instructed that anyone carrying more than Rs 50,000 must have valid supporting documents, as part of efforts to curb cash distribution to voters. District-level teams have been deployed to monitor compliance.
According to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, cash and goods worth Rs 151 crore have been seized statewide so far during the inspections. She also said 794 complaints related to Model Code violations were received through the C-Vigil mobile application.
Patnaik added that voter ID cards have been dispatched by post to 50% of those who newly applied, and that work to identify sensitive polling stations is continuing.
