Union ministers are expected to meet Dalit and Muslim representatives in Tamil Nadu, following a recent interaction with Christian priests and pastors in Chennai, according to BJP sources.
The sources alleged that the DMK and its allies have been spreading what they called false propaganda portraying the BJP as a communal party and as being against Christians, Muslims and Dalits. They said the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has implemented multiple schemes aimed at benefiting all sections of society.
As part of an effort to communicate these initiatives and counter the DMK’s narrative, BJP leaders said Union ministers would visit the state and engage with representatives from different communities.
In this context, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held discussions with Christian priests and pastors at an event organised by the BJP’s minority wing in Chennai last Saturday. He spoke about welfare schemes for minorities and alleged that the DMK had prevented minorities in Tamil Nadu from accessing benefits.
BJP sources said Union ministers Ramdas Athawale and Jitan Ram Manjhi are also expected to visit Tamil Nadu to meet Dalit and Muslim representatives and explain the Centre’s schemes.
