BJP leader and former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Tuesday said that “fully ignoring the DMK” is the only way to ensure children’s safety in the state.
In a statement, he referred to a case in Chennai in which a man identified as Bharath—described as a DMK 139th ward deputy organiser and a functionary in the party’s lawyers’ wing—was arrested under the POCSO Act. Annamalai alleged the accused had sexually harassed a 13-year-old girl over several years.
Annamalai claimed that in the last five years, those involved in sexual offences, particularly crimes against children, were “mostly” linked to the DMK, and said they act with the confidence that the DMK government will not take action against them.
He further alleged that anti-social elements and sexual offenders operate under the party’s shadow, reducing fear of law, police and social accountability, and said ordinary people, women and children bear the brunt. Calling child safety a non-negotiable issue, he urged the public to boycott the DMK.
