Jewellery gold prices in Chennai saw sharp swings on March 24, with rates falling in the morning and recovering by evening.
According to the reported rates, 22-carat gold dropped by ₹2,720 per sovereign in the morning to ₹1,04,000, while the per-gram price slipped by ₹340 to ₹13,000.
By evening, the trend reversed. Gold rose by ₹2,000 per sovereign to ₹1,06,000, and increased by ₹250 per gram to ₹13,250.
Overall, the report said gold was still ₹720 lower compared with the previous day.
Silver prices were also volatile. The silver rate was stated at ₹240 per gram (down ₹10) and ₹2.40 lakh per kg (down ₹10,000), while another update noted silver moving back up to ₹2.50 lakh per kg after a ₹10,000 rise.
