After multiple rounds of negotiations, the DMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) have signed a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
Under the pact, VCK has been allotted a total of eight constituencies, including two general constituencies. The allocation marks an increase of two seats compared with the 2021 Assembly election.
In 2021, VCK had contested six seats—four reserved constituencies and two general constituencies. This time, the party has been allotted six reserved constituencies and two general constituencies.
The seat-sharing process in the DMK-led alliance saw prolonged negotiations, with several new parties joining the front. As part of the broader allocation, Congress has been allotted 28 seats along with one Rajya Sabha seat, while other allies have also received their respective shares.
A comparison with the 2021 allocations shows Congress gaining three seats, while several parties—including IUML, MDMK, Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi, CPI and CPM—have seen reductions, and VCK has gained two seats.
