A multi-crore family property dispute has intensified in Andhra Pradesh between former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister YS Sharmila, the state Congress chief. Their mother YS Vijayamma has publicly supported Sharmila, alleging unfair treatment in the division of assets.

The disagreement traces back to the death of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a 2009 helicopter crash. As no formal will was left, the family’s assets, businesses and political legacy became a point of contention, with Vijayamma stating that the properties have not been properly partitioned.

In a recent statement, Vijayamma said Jagan’s claims on the assets were “misleading” and insisted that the properties remain under joint family control. She called for an equal distribution among Jagan’s two children and Sharmila’s two children, and asserted that the Bengaluru-based Elaganka land—said to be valued at about Rs 300 crore—belongs entirely to Sharmila.

The dispute also involves entities such as Saraswati Power and Industries and Capital Realty. As the assets are under the watch of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, their sale or transfer has been temporarily restricted.

According to the report, Jagan and his wife Bharati had earlier transferred shares of Saraswati Power to Sharmila and Vijayamma through a gift deed, which a tribunal later cancelled while hearing Jagan’s petition. Vijayamma has challenged that order before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, and the matter is listed for hearing next month; a ruling in Sharmila’s favour is seen as a potential political and financial setback for Jagan. Supporters of Jagan have also alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is backing Sharmila from behind the scenes.
