Chennai: Union minister Piyush Goyal has reportedly told Tamil Nadu BJP functionaries that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay does not appear to be a trustworthy political partner.

According to BJP sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had made serious efforts to bring Vijay into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The outreach was said to have been carried out directly and also through intermediaries including Jay Shah, Piyush Goyal and others close to Shah.

The sources said Vijay recently travelled to Mumbai, with reports linking the visit to an event at filmmaker Atlee’s residence and discussions related to the release of the film “Jananayagan”. During the trip, he is said to have met Goyal.

Goyal, while briefing Tamil Nadu BJP leaders about the conversation, reportedly said he met Vijay in Mumbai and conveyed details such as the number of seats that could be offered. However, he claimed Vijay spoke about unrelated matters and repeatedly changed his position.

Goyal was also quoted as saying that even if Vijay does not join, the NDA remains strong, the sources added.
