Florida: US President Donald Trump said Washington is engaged in high-level talks with a “top person” in Iran, but refused to disclose the individual’s identity.

His remarks come as the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran enters its fourth week. Earlier, Trump said progress in talks had led to a decision to pause a planned strike on power stations and energy infrastructure.

Iran, however, has publicly denied that any negotiations are taking place with the United States.

Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump insisted the discussions are not with Mojtaba Khamenei, whom he said he does not consider Iran’s ruler. He also claimed uncertainty about whether Mojtaba Khamenei is alive.

Trump said Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are involved in the talks, while reiterating that the US is speaking with a “highly respected” Iranian leader.
