DMK and DMDK on Monday night signed their seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election, allotting 10 constituencies to DMDK. The pact was signed at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam in Chennai by DMK president M.K. Stalin and DMDK general secretary Premalatha.
The agreement follows DMDK’s entry into the DMK-led alliance, under which DMDK has already been given a Rajya Sabha MP post. Vijayakanth’s brother-in-law Sudheesh was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking to reporters, Premalatha said discussions would continue over the next two days to finalise which specific constituencies would be allotted to DMDK. She said the candidate list would be released on March 27 and nominations would be filed on April 1.
Premalatha said DMDK had submitted an indicative list of 25 winnable constituencies to Stalin, including Virudhachalam—where Vijayakanth first won—as well as Virugambakkam in Chennai and Virudhunagar, where Vijayaprabakaran contested in the Lok Sabha election. She added that DMDK had sought a different number of seats, but accepted 10 as part of alliance give-and-take.
She also said DMDK would work for the victory of all alliance candidates in keeping with coalition principles.
