Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday said the DMK should ensure that AIADMK leader and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami is turned into a symbol of “crushing defeat” through the party’s victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a meeting of DMK Youth Wing office-bearers from Dindigul and Theni districts in Dindigul, he alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah frequently visit Tamil Nadu after elections but do not release projects or funds. He said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was the only leader consistently opposing what he called the Centre’s discriminatory approach.
Udhayanidhi further claimed that the BJP was attempting to enter the State by making the AIADMK and three other parties “subservient”. He said such efforts would not succeed as long as DMK cadre remained active, adding that “Delhi politics” would not work in Tamil Nadu.
Taking aim at Palaniswami, he said even the Opposition leader’s visits to the AIADMK office had become news, and accused him of frequently travelling to Delhi. He also alleged that the BJP had “assembled” alliances under a “Made in Delhi” label and would eventually weaken the AIADMK after the elections.
Citing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s experience in alliance politics, Udhayanidhi warned that Palaniswami should reflect on his own position. He asserted that regardless of how many teams were formed against the DMK, the party would emerge victorious in the Assembly polls.
