New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to amend the FCRA framework to prevent misuse of foreign funds.

Introducing the Bill, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the changes are aimed at increasing transparency in the use of funds received from abroad and ensuring they are utilised in the intended manner.

He said stringent action would be taken against those who use foreign contributions for forced religious conversions, as well as those who divert such funds for personal benefit. He added that action would be taken without bias.

The Bill faced strong opposition from Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs, who alleged that it was “dangerous” as it concentrated powers with the central government.

After the debate, the House, presided over by Krishna Prasad Tenneti, took up the matter for a voice vote, and the Bill was passed.
