Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) will contest three constituencies in Puducherry on its own, party president Thol. Thirumavalavan said on Wednesday, while levelling allegations against the Congress over seat-sharing within the INDIA alliance.

According to the VCK, the DMK-led alliance had indicated a seat arrangement in Puducherry, and the Uzhavarkarai constituency was allotted to VCK from the seats earmarked for the DMK. However, Thirumavalavan alleged that the Puducherry Congress has fielded a candidate in Uzhavarkarai despite the allotment, and has refused to ensure the withdrawal of that nomination.

He said this has created uncertainty over whether VCK has a seat within the alliance in Puducherry. With the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ending at 3 pm on Wednesday, he warned that the Congress approach could put the alliance’s overall prospects at risk.

Citing the situation, VCK announced its official candidates for the three seats where it has filed nominations: Arimaththamizhan (Oussudu), Amudhavan (Nettapakkam) and Selva Pushpalatha (Uzhavarkarai). Thirumavalavan appealed to voters to support VCK candidates to defeat the BJP-led alliance and form a government focused on social harmony and development in Puducherry.
