BJP tops national party donations in FY2024-25
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received far higher donations than other national parties in the 2024-25 financial year, according to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
ADR said national parties together received Rs 6,648.56 crore from 11,343 contributors during the year. Of this, the BJP alone received Rs 6,074.01 crore, while the Congress received Rs 517.39 crore.
The report noted that even if the donations received by Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, CPI(M) and the National People’s Party are combined, the BJP’s donation total is about 10 times higher. The Bahujan Samaj Party, ADR said, has stated it has not received donations above Rs 20,000 for the past 19 years.
Corporate contributions formed 92.18% of the overall donations, amounting to Rs 6,128.78 crore, while individual donors contributed Rs 505.66 crore. The BJP raised Rs 5,717.16 crore through corporate donations and Rs 345.94 crore from individuals; Congress received Rs 383.86 crore from corporates and Rs 132.39 crore from individuals.
Among political funding trusts, ADR said “Prudent” was the leading contributor, donating Rs 2,413.46 crore in total—Rs 2,180.71 crore to the BJP, Rs 216.33 crore to Congress and Rs 16.41 crore to AAP. The report also mentioned that Serum Institute of India donated Rs 100 crore to the BJP.
