Reports from Washington say Iranian missile and drone strikes have heavily damaged several US military bases across West Asia, leaving some facilities unusable.
The attacks are described as part of Iran’s retaliation amid a war that the US and Israel are reported to have launched against Iran on February 28, now continuing into its 27th day. Iran has been targeting Israeli and US military sites in the region with missiles and drones.
According to the reports, 13 US bases in West Asia have been affected. While air operations are said to be continuing, ground forces have been moved out to hotels and other temporary locations, and some personnel have been relocated to European countries.
US officials and service members cited in the reports said bases in Kuwait were among the worst hit. Facilities named include Port Shuaiba, Ali Al Salem Air Base and Camp Buehring.
The reports also claim the US has lost 16 aircraft within a month of the conflict, including 12 MQ-9 drones. They further allege three F-15s were mistakenly shot down by Kuwait’s air defence during an interception attempt, a KC-135 mid-air collision in Iraqi airspace killed six personnel, and Iranian attacks damaged key radar assets in Qatar and Jordan.
