New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference today with chief ministers of states and Union Territories, excluding those where Assembly election rules are currently in force.
The discussion is expected to focus on fuel-supply concerns and preparedness amid heightened tensions in West Asia. The situation has raised fears of possible shortages of crude oil and natural gas in India.
According to the report, the conflict has intensified following attacks involving the US and Israel against Iran, and Iran’s retaliatory escalation targeting US positions in Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The Centre had convened an all-party meeting recently on managing the evolving situation, where parties agreed to project a unified stand. In today’s meeting, the Prime Minister is expected to review steps taken by the Union government and the measures states plan to implement.
Officials said the interaction will also assess states’ readiness and action plans, with the aim of ensuring a coordinated “Team India” approach. Chief ministers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry are not expected to participate due to the Model Code of Conduct; a separate meeting with their chief secretaries is planned by the Cabinet Secretariat.
