New York: US President Donald Trump has drawn fresh criticism after claiming that Iran’s top leadership role was offered to him.
Speaking at a Republican Party fundraising event in Washington, Trump said several Iranian leaders told him they wanted him to be the country’s next ruler. He added that he declined the offer, saying “no, thank you.”
The comments come amid heightened tensions after the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28. The report said Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other key leaders were killed, and that Khamenei’s son Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed as the new ruler.
Trump’s statement has been widely ridiculed online, with users recalling his earlier claim last year that he wanted to be the next Pope after Pope Francis’ death. He had also shared an AI-generated image of himself in papal attire and later said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping wars.
