Iran will never manufacture nuclear weapons, and India can help bring the current war to an end, Iran’s representative in India Abdul Majid Hakim Ilahi said in an interview to an English daily.

Responding to questions on the conflict, Ilahi alleged that the countries that began the war are not ready to stop it, claiming they benefit from arms sales and higher oil prices, while showing little concern for poorer nations and people.

On Iran’s nuclear policy, he said the country’s leader has issued a directive declaring nuclear weapons prohibited. He asserted that Iran neither has such weapons nor wants to produce or possess them.

Ilahi said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and that India’s External Affairs Minister and Iranian leaders have spoken multiple times, with both sides expressing a desire for regional peace and hoping the dialogue will continue.

He also dismissed reports of Pakistan mediating in the conflict as “media hype”, and urged countries to collectively press those who started the war to stop it. On energy concerns amid disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, he said security there is not stable and called on nations to ask US President Donald Trump and others to end the war.
