New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged state governments to take strict action against hoarders and those seeking excessive profits, stressing the need to keep supply chains running smoothly amid the evolving situation linked to the West Asia conflict.
Modi held a video conference with chief ministers of states and Union Territories, with the exception of those where Assembly elections are scheduled next month. The discussion focused on steps taken by the Centre to manage a potential fuel crunch and the measures states are expected to implement.
Calling for a unified approach, the Prime Minister said the country can navigate the difficult period if everyone works together as “Team India”. He said the Centre is prioritising economic management, trade stability, energy security, protection of citizens’ interests, and strengthening industry and supply chains.
He asked states to ensure uninterrupted movement of goods and to monitor fertiliser storage and distribution with advance planning for agriculture. Modi also called for strong coordination at all levels to respond quickly to changing conditions, with special attention for border and coastal states on shipping and coastal security-related issues.
Warning against misinformation and rumours, he stressed the need to ensure accurate and reliable information reaches the public. Chief ministers, according to the report, praised the Centre’s handling of the situation, welcomed the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel, and sought higher allocation of commercial LPG cylinders to states.
