Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending congratulatory wishes after Shah took office.

Nepal recently went to the polls following political upheaval triggered by student protests last year, which led to the fall of the Communist-led government headed by K.P. Sharma Oli. A general election to form a new government was held on the 5th.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by Balendra Shah—also known as a rap singer and the former mayor of Kathmandu—won the election. Shah was sworn in as prime minister yesterday.

In a social media post on Friday, Shah said he was grateful for Modi’s message and added that he was keen to work closely with him for the development of their people and to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
