Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) has been declared as the DMK candidate for the Bodinayakanur constituency, according to reports.

OPS was removed from the AIADMK following a rift with party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). After failing to regain entry into the party, he joined the DMK on February 27 along with his son Ravindranath.

In recent weeks, OPS had said he would contest from Bodinayakanur if the DMK leadership gave him an opportunity. He has also been speaking at party platforms in support of the DMK and criticising EPS.

As expected, the DMK has now allotted him the Bodinayakanur seat. In the same constituency, EPS has announced V D Narayanasamy, the AIADMK’s deputy secretary for ideological propaganda, as the party’s candidate.

The report also said the DMK has given tickets to recent entrants Vaithelingam to contest from Orathanadu and Manoj Pandian from Alangulam.
