AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday claimed that Chief Minister M K Stalin had developed a “fear of defeat” soon after the AIADMK began its Assembly election campaign.

Campaigning in Alandur, Chennai, Palaniswami said Stalin had deployed ministers to respond to his remarks. He also targeted the DMK-led alliance, alleging that despite weeks of talks, the ruling party had not been able to finalise an understanding with its partners.

Palaniswami contrasted this with the AIADMK front, saying seat-sharing in his alliance was completed within four days. He cited a DMK ally leader’s remark that they were “crying while laughing” after talks, and alleged that some long-time partners had their seats reduced while newer entrants were given more.

In a separate campaign stop at Tambaram, he questioned the DMK’s claim of being a “principled alliance”, pointing to political contests in Puducherry and Kerala. He also criticised the DMK and its allies for not condemning alleged failures of the state government, and said the AIADMK would deliver better governance if voted back to power.
