Chennai: Election flying squads in Tamil Nadu have seized cash and other items worth Rs 273 crore during intensified checks across Assembly constituencies, according to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik.
Officials said surveillance has been stepped up in all constituencies, with flying squads maintaining round-the-clock monitoring as part of election enforcement.
As of Friday morning, the seizures included Rs 44.8 crore in cash and liquor worth Rs 93 lakh.
Authorities also confiscated narcotics valued at Rs 7.60 crore, gold and silver items worth Rs 116 crore, and freebie goods allegedly meant for distribution to voters valued at Rs 104 crore.
The total value of all seized items stands at Rs 273 crore, the Chief Electoral Officer said.
