Washington: The United States is set to place a president’s signature on dollar banknotes for the first time, ending a 165-year practice in which only the Treasury Secretary’s signature appeared on the currency.

The change is being introduced as part of the country’s 250th Independence anniversary celebrations. The US Commission of Fine Arts has approved the release of commemorative coins and postage stamps to mark the milestone.

Among the planned releases is a 24-carat gold coin bearing President Donald Trump’s image, along with the years “1776–2026” and the word “Independence.”

US Treasurer Brandon Beach announced that Trump’s signature will be printed on dollar notes. In a social media post, he described the move as historically significant and said the notes will also carry the signature of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The dollar note was introduced in 1861, and since then it has carried the Treasury Secretary’s signature. The upcoming issue will be the first in 165 years to include a president’s signature on US currency.
