Andipatti in Theni district is set to witness a familiar face-off, with DMK candidate Maharajan and his younger brother Lokirajan, contesting for the AIADMK, entering the fray against each other for the third time.
The constituency is considered a high-profile seat in the district, having gained wider attention in the past as leaders such as MGR and Jayalalithaa had contested and won from here.
In the 2019 by-election held for the Andipatti Assembly segment alongside the Lok Sabha polls, Maharajan defeated Lokirajan. The same pair contested again in the 2021 Assembly election, where Maharajan secured a second consecutive win.
Despite losing twice by a narrow margin, Lokirajan is said to have maintained his influence within the constituency and the party leadership, earning him the AIADMK ticket once again. Maharajan, after two wins, will contest as the DMK candidate for a third straight time.
