Chennai: DMDK leader Premalatha said she had no direct response to AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami’s allegation that DMDK is an unrecognised party, and that he should be asked why he made the remark.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, she described Vriddhachalam as DMDK’s traditional stronghold and the constituency that gave Vijayakanth his first victory. She said the party began this year’s conference activities from Vriddhachalam, adding that the party and the town are closely linked.

On seat-sharing, Premalatha said opportunities had been given to three former MLAs as well as new faces, including two young leaders—Prathap and Vijayaprabakaran. She said the party had sought Virugambakkam and Egmore for Parthasarathy and Nallathambi, but was told earlier that all Chennai seats would be contested by DMK candidates.

She added that there was no resentment over the allocation and said that even if DMDK wins, its partners would work alongside it. She also noted that the Pallavaram seat has been allotted to Anagai Murugesan, who had earlier won from Chengalpattu, and said DMDK would accept the seats it received wholeheartedly and focus on public service.

Responding further to the “unrecognised party” remark, Premalatha said DMDK is widely known as the third recognised party and that it is contesting in the ‘Murasu’ symbol across constituencies because it is a recognised party.
