Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay released the party’s list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly election on Palm Sunday, a day observed as holy by Christians.
Vijay, who is a Christian and whose full name is Joseph Vijay, has in recent times been using his full name at key public events. The report notes that earlier he largely used the name “Vijay”, which had drawn criticism from the BJP and some Hindu organisations when his full name was highlighted.
According to the announcement, TVK will field candidates in all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Vijay also said he will contest from Perambur and Tiruchy East, constituencies described in the report as having a higher Christian population.
During the candidate announcement, Vijay repeatedly introduced himself as “C. Joseph Vijay”, emphasising the name twice, the report said.
