US military officials have prepared plans for potential ground operations against Iran, after conducting air strikes so far, according to comments given to The Washington Post.

The officials said the proposed actions would focus on Iran’s Kharg Island and coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz. The plan reportedly involves using both special forces and regular troops.

They added that seizing key locations, including Kharg Island, is being considered to locate and destroy weapons viewed as a threat to shipping routes.

The officials stressed that the plans were not drafted in haste, saying they were studied in advance and tested under different scenarios. They said a ground campaign could last from several weeks to several months, and noted that President Donald Trump has not yet approved the plans.

Separately, Iran claimed it carried out attacks on two locations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where more than 500 US military personnel were said to be staying. The United States has not confirmed the reported attacks.
