Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the DMK-led alliance, calling it a coalition held together like “broken glass” that has been glued back.
Speaking after announcing TVK’s Assembly election candidates, Vijay said an MLA should be a protector of the constituency and not someone involved in wrongdoing. He alleged that several candidates announced by the DMK face cases related to theft, robbery and drug trafficking.
Appealing for votes, Vijay asked people to support TVK to “recover democracy from monarchy”. He said his party’s entry into the Assembly would be like “one MLA in every household”, and framed the campaign with the slogan, “Vijay in your heart; our MLA in every home.”
Vijay also argued that despite talk of a four-cornered contest, the real fight would be between TVK’s “people’s alliance” and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s alliance. He described the election as a choice between those who claim to end corruption and those “soaked in corruption”, and reiterated that the DMK alliance was a patched-up arrangement like torn cloth being stitched together.
