Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday criticised actor-politician Vijay’s remarks that the political contest in the state is primarily between the DMK and TVK, calling the statement “childish”.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Nagenthran alleged that the DMK had not taken action against those who spoke “incorrectly” about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while cases were being filed against people posting content on social media against the DMK and the DMK government.

He also referred to the Emergency imposed during Indira Gandhi’s time and claimed that a similar situation prevailed in Tamil Nadu, adding that it would “end on April 23”.

Rejecting Vijay’s framing of the contest, Nagenthran said the NDA alliance had earlier formed a government under AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and asserted that the alliance would govern again in the future.

He reiterated that Vijay’s comments were “childish”, and maintained that the NDA remained confident of returning to power.
