TVK leader Vijay filed his nomination on Monday for the Chennai Perambur constituency, where he is contesting the election.

According to the schedule, permission had been obtained for him to campaign in Perambur from 2 pm to 4 pm, and then continue in Kolathur and Villivakkam till 7 pm.

However, Vijay began campaigning earlier than planned in Perambur at around 1.30 pm. A campaign event was also held in Kolathur at about 4.30 pm, where the crowd turnout was higher than expected, affecting the planned address.

Vijay did not proceed to campaign in Villivakkam, alleging that the police had not made proper security arrangements, and returned home.

In a statement, TVK general secretary Anand said large crowds gathered spontaneously at multiple locations during the Perambur campaign tour, but the Greater Chennai Police did not ensure adequate security, traffic regulation and precautionary measures, leading to the Villivakkam meeting being cancelled in the interest of safety.
