A controversy has erupted in Katpadi after a video surfaced showing Tamil Nadu minister Durai Murugan wiping off kumkum applied on his forehead during a temple visit.

According to reports, the incident took place a few days ago at a Vinayaka temple in Ottaneri near Ponnai. Durai Murugan visited the temple along with his son Kathir Anand and party members as part of election-related outreach.

During the darshan, the priest applied vibhuti and kumkum to the minister. Durai Murugan is seen initially resisting and then, within seconds, using a handkerchief to remove the kumkum.

The clip spread widely on social media and triggered reactions from Hindu organisations. They questioned why a minister visiting a temple would avoid kumkum and alleged that DMK and its allies repeatedly disrespect Hindu temples and symbols, calling the act shocking for a senior minister.
