SIVAGANGA: District election authorities have issued notices seeking explanations over an alleged violation of nomination-filing rules during Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman’s nomination submission for the Karaikudi constituency.

As per election norms, only up to five persons are permitted to accompany a candidate at the time of filing nomination papers. However, during Seeman’s filing on March 30 before Devakottai Sub-Collector Ayush Venkat Vats, around 10 people were reportedly present along with him, including his mother Annammaal and wife Kayalvizhi.

Following this, District Election Officer and Collector Porkodi is said to have sent notices to Sub-Collector Ayush Venkat Vats, Karaikudi Tahsildar Raja and Additional Superintendent of Police Sukumaran, who was on security duty, seeking their explanations.

Revenue department officials were quoted as saying that both the candidate and the proposer/alternate candidate were allowed together, and that the Election Commission flagged the issue after noticing it in media reports and conveyed a complaint to the Collector. However, when contacted by phone, the Collector reportedly denied that any such action had been taken.
