Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman on Friday questioned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay’s statement that he entered politics after “enduring pain”, saying Vijay should clearly explain what he meant.

Speaking to reporters after campaigning for his party candidates in Tiruchirappalli, Seeman said Vijay had “not even a single case” against him, and contrasted it with his own experience of facing 261 cases. He said he had been to numerous courts and prisons, and argued that leadership comes from carrying people’s pain and seeking solutions.

Seeman also took aim at Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s remarks about Tamil Nadu’s debt, asking why the issue was being raised now. He said India had a large national debt and claimed that states governed by the BJP also carried debt, questioning Goyal’s “eligibility” to criticise Tamil Nadu on this count.

Further, Seeman criticised the BJP for alleging corruption in Tamil Nadu while, he said, having earlier called the AIADMK a corrupt party and then entering into an alliance with it. He added that the growth in NTK’s vote share reflected a change among the people, citing an increase from 4.5 lakh votes to 36 lakh votes.
