Congress on Saturday announced that former MP Viswanathan will contest from the Melur Assembly constituency in Madurai district.
In the DMK-led alliance, the Congress has been allotted 28 Assembly seats. The party had earlier released its candidate list for 27 constituencies, leaving Melur as the only seat without an announcement.
The pending decision was cleared with the declaration for Melur. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal made the announcement.
Viswanathan is a former Member of Parliament from the Kanchipuram constituency, the party said.
