Union Minister L Murugan, who is also the BJP candidate for Avinashi, met former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Dhanapal at his residence in Chennai and sought his blessings.
In a social media post, Murugan said he was happy to meet Dhanapal in person as he prepares to contest the 2026 Assembly election from Avinashi. He referred to Dhanapal as a senior AIADMK leader and the sitting MLA from the constituency.
AIADMK North Union Secretary Sevur Velusamy was present during the meeting, Murugan said.
The visit comes in the backdrop of Dhanapal recently issuing a statement alleging that he was not allotted a seat in the AIADMK, that no one discussed the matter with him, and that party members did not visit him when he was unwell. It is also notable that Dhanapal’s son Lokesh, who joined the TVK a few months ago, is set to contest from Rasipuram on that party’s ticket.
