Actor-turned-politician Vijay, after launching his party, has visited Puducherry only twice, according to reports. During his earlier visit on December 9, the Puducherry government imposed strict restrictions, yet Vijay did not criticise the Rangasamy-led administration.

Instead, he limited his remarks to the ration shop issue and avoided even mentioning Chief Minister N. Rangasamy by name at the public meeting. The report attributes this restraint to Vijay’s personal closeness and affection towards Rangasamy.

On his latest visit, when he went to Puducherry for election campaigning, Vijay again did not speak about Rangasamy or the ruling government there. The report notes that while Vijay has been sharpening his political contest in Tamil Nadu by criticising the ruling DMK government, he has not adopted a similar approach in Puducherry.

This has reportedly led to frustration among Puducherry-level functionaries of Vijay’s party, who question how votes can be sought without taking on the incumbent government and the Chief Minister.
